Weekly Riding Lessons
Weekly riding lessons at the C Bracket Horse Barn are open to ages four years up to adults. Most students come once a week, while some come twice or even more often as the schedule allows.
Private lessons, barrel racing lessons, and rope school are also available, as well as an adult riding hour, for those of you who don’t necessarily need instruction and simply want to enjoy some ‘horsehair therapy.’
In our classes, we cover all aspects of basic and intermediate horsemanship. Beginner classes for kids and adults start with safety and handling of the horses on the ground and build up to how to safely mount and dismount, how to balance and steer a horse, basic patterns, etc. Intermediate classes cover posting, leg cues, loping and leads, obstacles, etc.
All classes are tailored to the specific students that are in them – some move ahead more quickly, others take more time to establish basics, all based on how well the students are mastering fundamentals. Our ultimate goal is safety, closely followed by making sure each student is comfortable and enjoying their time horseback.
All students, after they have mastered the fundamentals of controlling their horses, have the opportunity to ride out of the arena on trail rides through the pastures. Students are also taught basic equine education, such as parts of the horse, colors and markings, hoof care, tack and tacking up, quick-release knots, etc.
The summer riding lesson season culminates in a field trip to Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park, where we ride through the trees along the river. There is also a playday for all students in August, where they will have a chance to showcase their skills to family and friends in a friendly competition with other students. In the weeks leading up to the playday we practice and coach all the events, and the students get to choose which ones to compete in.
There are three pricing levels for weekly group riding lessons. See more details under the ‘Rates’ tab on the above. We do not cancel for weather.
Our group classes are divided by age of the riders as well as skill level – beginners, intermediate, adult, etc. On average, group classes have from eight to 12 students. These classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and additional classes are opened as others fill. Most classes occur on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. through the summer. Specific class times will be determined by the number, age, and skill levels of riders.
You can reserve space for your student(s) this summer by completing the registration form below and completing the required liability release form.
